LOST IN TRANSLATION

When I lived in Berlin, there was a bunch of us who got together once a month to drink beer and complain about the Germans and all. One guy who worked for Spiegel had just been to Japan, and said "Look at this cool shirt I got!" and began unbuttoning his shirt to show us. When he finished, one of the guys at the table, a computer programmer, started howling with laughter, which was definitely not his usual style.

"Look what it says!" he said, pointing to the text on the shirt. "'I am a stupid American'!" He then said it in Japanese. And yeah, turns out that's what it actually did say. Popular item in places serving tourists, apparently.
