BOXING DAY

I try to observe the Brit tradition of Boxing Day and spend 12/26 doing precisely nothing, but when, against my better judgment, I turned on my computer and discovered that a diatribe of mine against the games Guitar Hero and Rock Band had posted on Yahoo and racked some 1500 comments, my ego figured I should pass it along before it went away. There is just no intelligent way to respond to this, not liking guitar hero is just fine, but confusing rock and roll with a sense of personally identity and then seeing a silly little game as a threat to that screams just one thing.
POOOOSSSSEERRR..... I bet you never played anything with out pushing the demo button first. Ironically, being a poser makes you the target audience of guitar hero....
Your not a rocker, your a blogger. Get used to it.

I can't believe this is actually a featured article on yahoo. This isn't even an article it's just some guys rant about why he hates Guitar Hero.

The writer of this article should have his journalistic license revoked.

Hahaha, nice move, Mick!
Let's call it 'How to attract an avalanche of pokemons'! Be careful, for them these guitars are the Tommy-guns.

Better hide all those Deviants albums, Mick-san.

A blogger not a rocker? Oh dear. But at least I've discovered a way to piss off the youth a cool thousand at a time.

Judging by the comments on the article, Guitar Hero et al aren't taking many intelligent youths away from real instruments.

Please don't write back and say those WERE the intelligent youths. Otherwise I might be tempted to become a nun. You can take your MP3 player when you do that, can't you?

WV is "endis". How apropos.

"replacing strings, pickups and fretboard with the input controls for Rock Band"

This is beyond heinous, acts worthy of a Telecaster upside the head. Music is all about strings, pickups, fretboards fingers and soul, and nothing to do with hero worship button pushing masturbation. There are no connecting dots of phenomenon, magic and art that lead from Guitar Hero to being the next Keith Richards.

Damn it kid, get a real bloody guitar and learn how to play.

Good on you Mick, I'm with you: Guitar Hero Must Die!

If I wanted to go through the effort to make a new yahoo account, I'd spam half these queef-huffing douche-garglers trying to talk shit...

Guitar-hero & the likes of rockband & the lesser known rip-offs, like the christian game, guitar-praise... bah, they're doing damage on all sides... not only does music suffer because of this hipster wanna-be bullshit [I, personally, blame emo on guitar hero & that implies that music is suffering], though video games suffer as well.

Not only that, Mad Catz made the worst fucking blutooth headset I've ever used, I hope that their inferior products help to bring down this piece of shit empire that's managed to tarnished multiple forms of culture.

The commercial music industry is the only thing that half the fuckers who play these games see... there's no Bob Dylan, there's no underground or experiemental genres.

Now to speak of Andy McKee, probably one of the better & more innovative modern guitarists I've heard in quite some time...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddn4MGaS3N4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSnWhsmlGec

Despite his prominent number of views & hits online, regardless of his ability to tour somewhat globally on talent alone, despite the fact that he's one of the few artists I'd actually get out of the house & pay to see while I'm hurting for cash... this guy isn't very liable to get picked up for the guitar hero band wagon any time soon.

Rather than inspire a real guitarist, like Andy McKee, you get something more like this from guitar hero...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZM0EGBdHOw

Trust me on this, I've been talking shit about guitar hero since day one & if I can muster it up, I fart every time I'm by a stack of guitar hero / rockband boxes in game stores.

Right now, what upsets me the most about this shit, is the new ads for the Xbox360 arcade set & guitar hero where they're trying to act like this is family shit... really? Playing these games that are based on songs about drug use & depravity, if not worse, is supposed to be a family activity now? What the fuck is that?

drug use & depravity are family activities at our house

Guitar Hero is not worth worrying. Regardless of age, the people who play it enthusiastically are gamers, and those who pick up a guitar are the people who want to be a rock musician. Their paths never cross.

Who died and made you the All Seeing, All Knowing Mighty Guardian of Rock-n-Roll?!

Here's a good idea; if you think Guitar Hero is a ridiculous game and a blasphemy in the holy temple of Rock, don't fucking buy it.

It's just a game.

I seriously doubt anyone who plays it actually harbors the illusion that they're a serious rocker and in no time at all they'll be on tour playing to massivbe crowds and snorting coke off of a stripper's ass backstage.

Why is it some dick with an overwhelming sense of his own importance is constantly spouting off about what is, and is not, culturally valid and what should, or should not, be discarded?

Have a look in the mirror, Farren, you're just as much a judgemental, intolerant book-burner as anyone on the far right.

But, of course, you're RIGHT and they're wrong.

now everybody let`s just calm down,we are all entitled to our opinion.it`s just a game which has actually inspired some to take up playing for real.realist,i bet you play drums (snigger)

Mick said...

That's it, Realist, in a fucking nutshell. I'm right and they're wrong. In this instance, I totally believe it's a very bad idea to be raising a generation of corporate-Pavlovian functional illiterates who spend their time pushing buttons on a updated version of Simon to a background of AC/DC.

But's just a blog. If you don't like it...(well, you know the rest.)

Oh dear, you seem to have hit on some psychotic vein with all this, Mick, not to say a good few psychopaths.

No wonder Activision is kindly providing copies to US armed forces around the globe.

But, don't worry, when they really get into their roles they'll all start smashing up their - err - guitars.
