Oh dear, here we go again.
The gleeful dread, dreadful glee, machine rolls on, doom,gloom and self-flagellation. Those who profess no religious faith, yet earnestly proclaim their spiritual(!) depths of awareness, apparently with no sense of irony, continue to behave exactly like zealot monks in an Opus Dei soap opera.
This delusion that we are subjects of, and have sinned against, Mother Nature and will pay the ultimate price is just another manifestation of God-the-Father complex. We are as much "Nature" as everything around us, including the climate, and physics and chemistry will play out the inexorable dance of reaction and counter-reaction ad infinitum. There is no moral dimension here, other than the dawning realisation of an evolving intelligence that physical comfort is preferable to pain, and for some at least, is achievable to a limited extent.
Arguably there is a logical reason to do-as-you-would-be-done-by, but this should not be confused with some bizarre mea culpa breast- beating cult of obeisance to any over-arching personification of the object of our cellular dread, call it God, Nature, jehovah, Allah, Brian, Beryl, whatever-you-like.
Just as the Earth existed long before creatures crawled across it, it will exist long after we've gone. IT"S NOT A QUESTION OF BLAME, PEOPLE,
IT'S THE RANDOM BEHAVIOUR OF PARTICLES!
Or the deliberate behaviour of human beings who've got the ability to premeditate their actions, an ability which has been suspended for some decades now.
Human beings do indeed in the widest sense contribute, deliberately or otherwise, to the whole chemical electro-magnetic soup. We no more deserve blame (nor praise) for that, than do the ants, the bees, the trees, the wind, the rain, the stars . . . . .
So much for the concepts of comprehension and free will.
