SUNDAY BREAKFAST
Although I am now busily recovering from the first assault by my new UK micro-ecology, I have spent that last few days surviving on a diet of on a diet of soup, Tuc crackers, Vegemite and ginger ale, which can hardly be described as Rabelaisian. A side effect of this limited nourishment is that I’ve been having the most vivid fever dreams of the full English fry-up and as soon as I feel fit enough I will be sitting in a café ordering a the culinary equivalent of Russian roulette for a self-induced heart attack. (And yes, I have switched brand loyalty from Marmite to Vegemite. It’s all to do with consistency and spreadability. Does that make me a class traitor?)

Shocking sir, Vegemite, shocking!
Vegemite!!!
Blurrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhhh
Return to Marmite in all its savoury gloopy wonder, you know it makes sense
I am afraid the shift to vegemite calls into question absolutely everything else about your entire existence and ouevre to date. (After all, the seeds of this treachery may well have been harboured in your soul for years hitherto.) This is no small matter. The jury is out, but quite possibly only to buy some rope.
I am castigated and cast out...and on a Sunday in front of Marilyn.
Whatevez yo, I had me a key-lime-pie martini & some roast chicken cannoli for starts today...
I don't even know what the fuck vegemite & marmite are.
WV = frory
How can you forsake Marmite in all its silken glory? Vegemite is OK but looks like a particularly fudgy stool and tastes too much of carrots for my liking.
Get well soon!
A quick goggle on marmite to vegemite turned up some interesting stuff...
Kraft foods or Seventh day adventists... crasy and producing this product apparently goes hand in hand?
Cut and paste from http://www.salagram.net/Marmite-Vegemite.html:
Marmite is made by Sanitarium Health Food company, which is wholly owned by the Seventh Day Adventist church. Our 7DA's don't run around with guns, unlike a certain Texas sect. There was (still is?) a TV ad campaign for Marmite last year which had many viewers reaching for the off switch ("The Marmities").
Vegemite is made by multi-national food company Kraft General Foods NZ Ltd, who have acquired several "NZ" labels over the last 25 years. It isn't advertised much, though Kraft have been pushing it and their jam + cheese labels recently in a series of adverts starring Billy Connolly and Pamela Stevenson (Why Billy - a Scot - is pushing vegemite is beyond me, as most non-antipodeans can't stand any of the yeast extracts...)
Only the NZ version of Marmite is owned by these Sanitarium types you speak of, the NZ version doesn't taste the same as the thoroughly British Marmite which started off life as a family business in Staffordshire. The original and best Marmite is still the best.
Of course nowadays like everything else Blighty's Marmite is owned by multinational Unilever.
Mick - I hope you are now over the temporary bout of insanity in discarding Marmite for that pathetic pretender to the throne vegemite....?
