NOW THEY TELL US?
And whoever suspected Marlboro had a therapeutic upside?
“You all know very well the dangerous health risk of smoking because it has over 300 carcinogens that have proved to be as damaging to the lungs of the smokers. Nevertheless, research has shown a 50% lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease or Parkinson disease in smokers as compared to the non-smokers. Nicotine has also found to give an encouraging result especially in improving ADHD symptoms and reducing the risk of developing ulcerative colitis. Still, I don’t agree with this type of therapy for adults and particularly not for teens and children.” (Lifted from Healthmad)

Apparently it has a beneficial effect on schizophrenics too. That's why so many street loonies reek of nicotine. They're self medicating. In fact, I have a friend who counsels street addicts and he (quietly) advises schizophrenic clients to keep smoking until their other problems are well under control. The agency he works for encourages him to get them into stop smoking clinics. He would get in trouble if it came out that he was encouraging smoking.
Sure there's less alzheimers & parkinsons amongst smokers. Smokers don't live long enough to become elderly.
I know a man who developed colitis after he quit smoking several years ago and his doctor told him then that nicotine helps prevent colitis. He stayed off butts but had to medicate for the new ailment. Colitis is better than cancer no doubt, but it proves that nothing in life is black and white.
Except pictures of Marlene Dietrich.
