“Very soon the world will wise up that there’s more to being a writer than merely owning a computer.”

I once knew a writer who didn't own a computer. He never wrote anything, but sometimes he would tell strangers that he was a writer.

In the evening, he would sit with a notebook and pen and drink while watching television.

Later, he would take off all of his clothes and meet me when I came home from work. He would hop around, boyishly, by the kitchen door and suggest that maybe tonight would be a good night for us to get together and talk about writing.

In the morning, if the weather was agreeable, he would sit on the porch with his notebook and pen and drink coffee.

I have to admit that I once snuck a look in his notebook. He had not written a word. Not so much as a doodle.

You don't even have to write to be a writer.
