REMEMBER STONEWALL

(And those long-gone days when freaks were freaks, gay straight, stoned, or just plain confused.)

Interesting observation, Mickey. I recall when we were all one noisy big tent of freakery. I'm well aware it's politically incorrect to note this, but it seems our gay brothers and sisters have squared up in the last 30 years. In all fairness, so has the rest of society. The truth may be that the freaks -- as in many movements -- were the vanguard, fighting for the rights of their squarer numbers who then emerged as their natural everyday people selves once it was somewhat safe.

I doubt that our gay brothers and sisters have squared up so much as they've become a marketing niche. "Gay" now means two college educated white men with no dependents and lots and lots of surplus income. Gays fitting that description have become quite respectable. They're a highly desirable demographic. Meanwhile poor, non white, etc, queers are still marginalized. The pressure is off them enough that they are not likely to riot, but they are not happy and comfortable.
