FEDS THREATEN INTERNET

The following disturbing tale comes from the excellent Prison Planet website and was sent by Kass.

“Amazing revelations have emerged concerning already existing government plans to overhaul the way the internet functions in order to apply much greater restrictions and control over the web.
Lawrence Lessig, a respected Law Professor from Stanford University told an audience at this years Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California, that “There’s going to be an i-9/11 event” which will act as a catalyst for a radical reworking of the law pertaining to the internet.
Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.”

The internet may well turn out to be too anarchic to control, and too useful to destroy.

John Calleman, who's been studying the Mayan calendar agrees with you. He indicates that the level of communication made possible by the internet may well be the saving grace of this century.

Hope to god you're both right.

Internet, serious business...

Really though, this post is only a test. Here's hoping the format stays fine via this posting method.

Care to explain, Comrade Faux?

I was just trying to see if I could post comments via the internet browser on a PS3 without the format getting messed up... glad to say that it seems like it worked [which, is more than can be said for the same method in regards to posting elsewhere online].

Nevertheless, when I first heard of net neutrality, I was talking with fellow gamers somewhere online [maybe the Video Game Voters Network] & I believe that ASK A NINJA was brought up, which, brought up his video about the subject & I found myself checking out savetheinternet.com to try & get involved [albeit lazily, petitions & letters, none of the marching in the streets that people got so enthused about when protesting the Co$ on 03/15].

I think that a censored net will end up being snubbed out for various reasons, though, the main reason I think the powers that be will simply let it be, is because that if this is taken away, they might see a surge in public action... kids would essentially be forced to speak aloud rather than type furiously. It has a real possibility to backfire in a terrible & drastic way for those who want to stymie free speech, people making a fuss in public is more of a problem than a web-page in cyber space, at least in immediate terms.

Hey, cool. Many thanks. Explaining stuff is crucial in communications.
