It’s never easy for a superhero when his teen-boy sidekick start shooting up. But weren’t Green Arrow and Green Lantern more than lame enough to drive anyone to serious narcotics?

er, actually ... those '70s GL/GA stories, while sometimes cheesy, were quite interesting and topical in how they took on social issues of the time. GA fancied himself the hip rebel, while GL was the total square who still believed in the "system." they each learned from each other. hal jordan has always been a bit of a tool, but oliver queen remains one of the more interesting and cooler minor characters in the DCU.

and, sure. the message is "drugs are bad," but wtf. at least they delved into the why of it somewhat instead of just telling kids "don't do drugs," like nowadays. fer fucksake, there's WORKS on the cover of a '70s DC comic book carrying the freakin' comics code seal of approval. you wouldn't see that nowadays, and a lot of mainstream books don't even carry the code.
