THEY STILL DESIGN POSTERS LIKE THIS...

In response to last Thursday’s post about designer Rick Griffin, our pal Valis complained “I think you're overlooking some GREAT new designers of rock posters.” He sent me a bunch of contemporary examples like this one by Chuck Sperry that truly proved “the art of rock is very alive and well.”

The secret word is Corrected

Dodge: They call 'em the Dependables.

From a '64 brochure:

The Dependables

Fifty years ago, in 1914, the first automobiles to roll off the Dodge assembly line quickly earned a reputation for being Dependable. People in those days would tell you that Dodges would start when others wouldn't... that Dodges would still be going strong when others had had it. This is still the case! That's why Dodge has had such a solid reception as a Police vehicle. Today, in fact, Dodge is used as the State Police vehicle in nearly half of our fifty states! This is the kind of unsolicited testimonial that really means something-to us and to you! It means that Dodge gives you what you've gotta have in a Police Pursuit-rugged, low-cost, day-in-and-day-out performance and dependability.

Dodge offers you a choice that's tough to beat. For '64, two great Dodge Pursuits, in eight models, each designed to meet your specific needs-the standard-size 119-inch wheelbase Dodge and the big 122-inch wheelbase Dodge 880.

Couple these Pursuits with a wide choice of powerplants and you've got a Police package that just won't quit. Five big engines ranging from a highly economical, municipal-minded Slant Six to a hot and hairy 413-cubic-inch V-8 that's quite at home on any highway...for any length of time.

But Dodge performance is more than sheer power. It's dependable service with low upkeep. It's service from a high-speed starter that doesn't fool around wasting time, gas, or battery. It's time and money saved from big brakes with bonded (instead of riveted) linings. It's service from a heavy-duty alternator that keeps the battery up to snuff, makes it last far longer than it otherwise would. It's penny-pinching service from a Pursuit that goes 32,000 miles between major grease jobs, 4,000 between oil changes.

This is the kind of performance that makes Dodge a big choice in Police Pursuits. It's the kind of performance that you can depend on.
