IT MAKES ME ALL WARM AND FUZZY
I always feel good when bikers and truck drivers drive off loathsome religious bigots. It doesn’t happen all that often so, when it does, I wax all sentimental. And, yeah, I know the action flies in the face of universal free speech, but these Westboro Baptists are such nasty vicious fundamental assholes. (The picture is generic bikers but there is video of the actual event.)
“A protest by the infamous Westboro Baptist Church was not carried out in Joplin, Missouri on Saturday as planned after a large contingent of bikers showed up and flushed them out of a zone marked off for their demonstration. The hate group, known for protesting soldiers returning from war, had planned their event to coincide with President Obama’s appearance at Missouri Southern State University, to memorialize the 143 confirmed to have been killed during recent storms. As you can see from the video below, it did not turn out well for the protesters, as one — surrounded by police at the start of the footage — is forced to flee as hundreds of noisy bikers swept past the police line and occupied the protest area. According to one first-hand account, it went something like this: “When the police saw what was about to happen they grabbed him and tried to push the bikers back!! Then they told the guy “run you stupid mother fucker” And I am quoting!! We heard that more of them were blocked at a local truck stop by a few awesome truckers!! They pinned them in until it was over, not sure about this one just what we were hearing!! You may think of bikers as mean or lawless but when it comes to things like this they really step up!!!” (Click here for more and the video)

Granted, the members of the Westboro Baptist Church are complete assholes, but they have as much right to free speech as any other group of assholes. Freedom of speech isn't just speech that everyone is comfortable with.
The idea that some group that the majority dislikes (hippies, anti war protestors, Jews for Jesus, PETA...you pick) shouldn't be able to say their bit out of fear of some bunch of redneck scooter trash beating the shit out of 'em sticks in my craw.
I totally agree with you. I just couldn't help watching with a smug smile as the bastards' karma was leveled a little.
I have to admit, after thinking to myself about the media fiasco with Palin riding on a motor cycle & not getting a pie in the face or anything & how disappointed I was in bikers as a result... this one made up for it a little bit... only a little.
So far as redneck scooter trash beating the shit out of people for speaking, I disagree, it had nothing to do with them voicing their opinions or having their say, rather, the way they go about grabbing attention, that was the reason redneck scooter trash did what it did. WBC was trying to get attention by attatching themselves to a natural disaster & the loss of human life. It really had nothing to do with freedom of speech, they can say whatever the fuck they want, most people don't care. The issue at hand is respect for the bereaved & the deceased. Even dumb redneck scooter trash know better (& can apparently coordinate better too)...
At least CNN & news agencies can fake it & act like they aren't generating profit & revenue from the untimely loss of life, they at least bring food & water into those communities with them, they at least bring medical supplies & seem to be doing something or another beyond just reporting.
Thanks Anon. I think you've solidified my real problem with the WBC. They are exploiting basic human emotion for their cause. It is almost the same as calling a black man a nigger to start a riot.
Also I agree that the news media in general are parasites thriving on human misery. It is the anture of news. I no longer watch extended coverage of any major news story. The talking heads spend too much time specualting about things they don't understand or simply repeat the same old lines and fill time.
Also agree about Palin on the bike. That was one hell of a low point for outlaw motorcyclists. Letting the biggest suck up in politics suck up using them.
The WBC events are like the KKK events. It's so hard not to show up and counter protest by beating them into the primordial slime that they actually are. But all that does is generate media coverage. And the protesters uptnumber the KKK about ten to one in the midwest these days.
I would be interested in an anti WBC protest wrapped in christian imagery. But I'm no christian and I suspect that this is not religion in any real sense. Merely a bunch of losers who have exceeded their fifteen minutes of fame a hundred fold.
