AND ON THE SUBJECT OF CHAOS…

Doug the Bass sent over this very disturbing video clip of Glenn Beck’s march on Washington. His response is terse. “It's kind of strange to watch and listen to since I'd always been under the impression that we had universal public education in this country. It's obviously not just children that get left behind...” My own response is rather more Sunday sad. How the hell did these people become so terminal deluded? Especially as many of are probably on Medicare, disability, or otherwise survive because of some legacy of New Deal socialism? It all resembles some hideous twilight of rationality.

  1. "Hideous twilight of rationality" is a great phrase. Unfortunately. I wish it were a totally inappropriate phrase, but I guess not.

WV is calling. Is it trying to tell me something?

  2. 'Cut Taxes Not Defense' is my favorite sign since the largest chunk of discretionary federal spending is defense. Of course these are the same people who want the feds to keep their hands off medicare. The teabaggers seem to be willfully ignorant.

I recall you writing about cultural cycles of descent into, I believe it was, "Barbarian Twilight" Something along the lines of 'each golden age of man is followed inevitably' by said descent, like the passing of seasons. I guess it was dna cowboys, might have been festival. You were right then, I think, as you most often are. Not many people see the human story with both the lofty detatched clarity and ultrapersonal bias you blend so seamlessly. When one herbivore out grazing stops to look around, the rest always freeze and look where he does to see what the matter is. The tallest animals always see the danger first. You, sir, are my personal giraffe. If something worries or disheartens Mick, I go to DEFCON 3. (I'm sorry, I'll climb down off your nuts now, but you desrve a good gush once in a while for everthing you do)

  6. Doncha ever want to make fun of the tea party and call them tea-bags instead? Or how about tea bagging tea parties. Isn't that when dudes swing their "bags" at other dudes?
I can't get that image out of my mind.
