MASS PSYCHOLOGY IN ACTION
The standard institution/government waiting room plastic chair is designed in a way to make it impossible to sleep or even sit comfortably for any length of time.
Funny, I used to sleep in those things during class... the trick is to sit sideways and lay your arm across the top of the back as a pillow and slump over to lean on it.
I recall that years ago I read how McDonalds scientifically designed the chairs and table in their golden arch outlets so they were too damned uncomfortable for people to linger -- like they might in a bar or diner --after they'd consumed their so-called food.
Its been suggested that the same concept applies to junk-food franchaises.
