A FUTURE WITHOUT DETROIT?

The suits of the motor industry are without shame or even a sense of theatre. They show up in Washington in their private jets, with their seven and eight figure salaries, and expect the government to spot them a fast $25 billion, under the old George Bush socialism-for-the-mega-rich safety net. These clowns haven’t made a decent car since the Dodge Challenger, and they drove Detroit into the ground as their unholy alliance with the oil barons produced vehicles that were nothing more than heavily promoted, two-ton chunks of gas-guzzling ugly metal, but they still have the infinite and unmitigated gall to give the nod and wink to their Republican toadies to bounce all over my TV claiming that the destruction of the big three automakers is all the fault of the UAW and shiftless workers with too much healthcare. I totally believe that Ford, GM, and Chrysler should get their bailout ASAP, but on the solid proviso that current management is immediately taken out back and executed by a union firing squad.

The secret word is Drastic

  3. After the (public) execution they should be allowed to have a plastic surgery & lifting to look better on TV.

The ancient Rome had also gone to dust because their plebeians had not earn enough money for their bwanas, the patricias.
The dictature of rich motherfuckers is the worst possible scenario for the future of this abused Earth.
    So welcome to the show!

They frittered and pissed away all of their past profits (business was booming for them just a few short years ago...remember?), they overpay almost everyone, especially upper management, and they produce a crappy product. Why shoul the taxpayers reward such poor business practices?

Start making better cars and stop pampering your worthless execs and maybe the taxpayers will think about sliding you a few bucks. Fuckers.

  5. As far as I'm concerned, these fuckers can suck it... I don't even own an automobile & I'm not worried about the assholes making any more of'em.

& What's more, when I beg for money on government property, cops chases me away... somebody better take a broom to these fuckers & run'em out of there, that ain't fair.

  7. A union firing squad ? Sounds a tad clean for my liking; unless we might safely assume our union brothers will lower their sights and aim to maim.

  8. I wish the government would bail me out.But then again,I'm not such a fat old Republic man making too much money,(protected the last 25 or more years by government)flying better than first class, with no idea what's going on in my own country.
Overpaid, stupid people in charge just laughing at us poor slobs because they don't care that the public cannot afford to drive the cars they make. Think SUV's,and big pick up trucks.

I would think we really should charge these people's homes and take possession and all of their crap inside. They are the most unAmerican people I know.
Then grab them,by their fucking collars and belts and shove them right out of America, like they shove drunks out on their asses, out of a bar.
    Revolt!
Who's next that this country should bailout? How about all the lower middle class. And I don't mean a lousey $300.00 bandaid fixit to jump start the economy.
What's that going to do? Pay for one month of a winter heating bill? Gosh I feel postively weathly.

Why aren't more people getting angry about this.I've been buying import cars for a long time, because they're quality made, and easy on the gas,and out last most newer GM Product.GM has been making plastic pull handles on their doors, and they break in winter, and they don't even make replacement ones you can buy! So how do you open your freakin' door after that? God,they're stupid!

And yeah, the cars I still own and drive are from 1966 & 1967,
(Ford Mustangs, baby)when they were made of metal, and lasted.
Grrr.Im' angry about this bailout,I'm not watching TV anymore,it just makes me fuming mad.

Can't disagree more with what everyone is saying on this subject. The foreign automakers have been subsided by their governments on and off since their inception; BMW, Toyota, Kia, Fiat, etc. Our own government have given these companies tax breaks to build assembly plants here with tax payer money (look into Sen. Shelby and Mercedes in Alabama for just one example). GM did try in the nineties to bust the union and remember they had no public or government support and had a strike which lost them hundreds of millions and left them with a black eye. SUV's and trucks were built because that was what the people wanted, they couldn't build em' fast enough. They couldn't compete on the small car front WITH subsided foreign automakers with new plants, no retirees, lower health care, new workers starting out with lower wages, no unions. The big three are asking for a loan not free money like the financial community have received which has put the automakers in this position to begin with.

Whew, sorry so long. If the big three go down we will enter a depression, they are the largest purchaser of computers, chips and service. Largest buyer of iron, copper, steel, glass, aluminum. Largest health care provider outside of government. One in ten jobs are auto related and if you think the foreign companies will buy local in the same capacity? They will import even more. We could talk about quality perceptions, loss of taxes and more government burdens but I'm sure I've already bored you to death.

The cars were crap and you can't pin that on the workers.

  11. Who's subsided? Mercedes? Toyota? BMW? Wow!
    Who doesn't have an union?
    You must be dreaming.

But it doesn't mean I defend these other polluters. They're the same fuckers... just their final product is more solid for the moment... but don't worry, Mercedes is already full of Chinese spare parts that are of horrible quality and because of that Chinese co-production their profit have soared to the sky (more profit=less quality).

Anyway, in 20-30 years the situation today will look like a paradise on Earth because of the new slavery neoliberal policy. The change is all we need... and the restitution of wealth from those Western, Arabian, Russian and other
fuckers but the people today aren't ready yet to share their little peace of fucking comfort
with the people in real need.

Not dreaming, facts. In the early nineties Alabama gave Mercedes land worth between $250 -$300 million. A 10 year tax break plan, trained workers, cleared and upgraded the site, upgraded utilities and purchased $2,500 vehicles. These incentives aside from the free land total anywhere from $153,00 to $220,000 per job created of tax payer money. Fiat has been given money not loaned from Italy's government to survive. Renault was given $2 billion by the French government in 1989 and last I heard owned 15%. Toyota, Nissan, Honda were given start-up money, training and free properties in Japan. Japanese companies do not pay health care or retirement to their workers in Japan. BMW the same. Add that BMW would not have survived after WW2 if not for US investments.
You can talk about the government allowing dealers to sell foreign cars on their lots (after a lawsuit in the seventies). That would be like a McDonalds franchise wishing to sell a Whopper to compete against it's own Big Mac in it's restaurant.
I could talk about Toyota truck plant subsides in Texas. Yes, Toyota makes trucks and SUV's they do not care about the environment any more or less than the big three.
Bottom line, it has not been a level plying field for quite some time.

  13. There's always a solution!

    a) To pay the workers 1 dollar a day (like in China) and in a year the problem is solved. Fantastic solution! Pure patriotism! And it's even higher wage than in a half of African countries.

    b) as Garage 66 said:
"I would think we really should charge these people's homes and take possession and all of their crap inside. They are the most unAmerican people I know.
Then grab them,by their fucking collars and belts and shove them right out of America, like they shove drunks out on their asses, out of a bar.

Once that's done, you can start with revival of your car industry, but not before that broom cleaning.

    Another thing to come: Petrol
for your cars is 2-3 X less expensive than in Europe... but not for a long time. Clouds are coming, Bush & kronnies cannot be killing eternally those Arabs for your cheap petrol so start making more economic cars.

When is the reality going to sink in that the USA is going to have to undergo massive and radical change if it doesn't want to fall apart like the old Soviet Union?
