STEPHEN HAWKING REJECTS THE HAND OF GOD

All I can say is that that Dr. Hawking comes like a breath of clean air into the current swamp-miasma of ignorant wilful primitivism.

“In his new book, The Grand Design, Britain's most famous physicist sets out to contest Sir Isaac Newton's belief that the universe must have been designed by God as it could not have sprung out of chaos. Citing the 1992 discovery of a planet orbiting a star other than our Sun, he said: "That makes the coincidences of our planetary conditions - the single Sun, the lucky combination of Earth-Sun distance and solar mass - far less remarkable, and far less compelling as evidence that the Earth was carefully designed just to please us human beings." He adds: "Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing. "Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. "It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going." (Click here for more)

Frankly, I find Iggy in a shirt to be far more unsettling than Hawking pointing out that it's unlikely an invisible beardy guy pointed at the universe and said, "Gravity, get your ass in gear!"

  2. The other day I was having a beer with Jesus; he took a big swig, let out a massive belch, drunkenly scratched his belly and claimed that Steven Hawking doesn't really exist.

  3. I know, I know. I should probably just give up and post this stuff at the Mormon's web site but...

Steven Hawking worships the God of quantification. His religion is science. I have nothing against quantification or science. Yes, there are fools out there who claim that their creation myth is better than the scientific creation myth but there are also scientific fools out there who don't understand the value of creation myths.

Please Mick, you've done a lot of acid. This hyper rationalist, "I only trust what I can see and touch", bullshit leads straight to Ayn Rand. We know better.

And finally, this is not a pitch for organized religion. Some of my best friends and greatest heroes are affiliated with one or another religion. Ditto for some of my worst enemies. Also, this is not a refutation of science. I don't really give a fuck how the universe originated. I want to know how to live in it.

    Over seriously yours,
    I remain,
    Your humble servant,
    Happy birthday.

  4. If "God" exists, It is something we aren't anywhere intelligent enough to comprehend, which is why invisable beardy guys are made up to keep the masses in line. I wouldn't buy that idea if it came with a free lifetime supply of Pot.Nonetheless, and much as I admire Hawking, I gots to wonder what created the law of gravity - and if the universe was made from nothing where the fuck did the Nothing come from?? Still I can see why Hawking would simplify his statement if only to counter the rising popularity of neo-Dark Ages fundamentalism.
