I've just woke up (in the UK)to the momentous news and have tears of joy in my eyes. It's more than we all dared to hope! But somewhere deep down I think we all knew common sense would prevail in the end.

Rather drunk in a hotel room in Victoria, BC... Feeling quite splendid actually...sort of reminds me of the night when the Tories were kicked to death before Blair fucked it all up...giggling in a manic state and telephoning around the world in hope for a slightly better place...looking forward to reading your report Mick.

  5. Tears of joy,I hope this country gets it's act together, and now I think it will. We need to focus on positive changes, clean house, help regular folks out, make sure jobs aren't going overseas, get out of this expensive war,get the economy moving better, and just think about our own problems, and people that live in this country instead of trying to fix other countries' problems, which cannot be fixed.
I'm close enough to Chicago to have heard the people screaming YEAH! I cannot believe after voting, that the one we wanted got in office. It's never been that way before.
The people spoke, and they were heard,I still can't believe it!

Oh yeah - forgot to say that I've just become a Grandfather so this planet is certainly improving in my humble opinion...albeit a very drunken one.
But come on chaps and lady chaps, we all deserve some fuckin' hope after all the crap we've had to endure over the last eight years.
Don't let me wake up with a hangover and this all be a dream... please!

That middle one isn't what the domain title would imply, I promise that... I wouldn't link it here if it was. The bottom one is probably the funniest.

  10. Finally a flickering of democracy in the US...
...but a darkness surrounding Mr.Obama is huge.
Let's hope he'd be able to purify it.
Hey, I saw the shift on that rotten CNN. Tonight these chameleons have put a lot of black journalists. Those Murdoch & co. are unbelievable!

I hope the next president will be an Indian (native), the only real American who's right now without any rights.
    Anyway, good luck Mr.Obama!

  11. Hurray! Yesterday was my first vote as an American citizen and it actually went my way! I hadn't even let myself dare hope. There surely are better days coming.

  12. buried up to my neck in reactionary rightists here in AZ, I was wound tight for weeks. I wasn't at all convinced that the pundits and pollists had it right--I've been kicked in the teeth for so long--now I'm resisting the impulse to go giddy.

now that he won't be locked in combat with a GOP congress, maybe we can crawl out of cave and enter the 21st century

  13. I've always been proud of Americans, individual Americans that is. What would my life be like without Chuck Berry, or Hunter Thompson? What would my music be like without Lightnin' Hopkins?

Yes, Samuel Clements, Kerouac, Dylan and Jefferson, Muddy Waters and Richard Feinmann, I have treasured many Americans. But how could I say yes to foundings of a nation based on the acceptance of ownership of a human being by another, the genecide of the first nations, the Japanese interment, McCarthy and Mei Lai. Yet today I can say, for the first time in my life,

I am so fucking proud of America!

I know it sounds petty and juvenile, but one of the best parts of President-Elect Obama's win was the whimpering, hollow-eyed, hangdog expressions on the formerly-smug, fat little faces of the arch-conservative, bible-banging, racist, homophobic dinguses (dingi?) who were soooo completely convinced that the rest of the nation shared their idiotic beliefs. It was the look of utter confusion and disbelief you'd get when you show a cat a card trick.

    Priceless...absolutely priceless.

  18. what leftcoastcat said. I know that Jerry Lee Lewis and James Brown could only come from America, but pride in my country has been hard to come by for many, many years. It's a relief to not be embarrassed. One problem, I've been running on fear and anger for so long, I'm not sure what will get me out of bed in the morning. It's OK. I'll find out.

Dare I say the hope of a better world? Or is that ridiculous?

  20. The US with Bush & Co has became the black paranoical hole. Now there's a new light on the horizon.
But is that hole too deep, too fat?
Obama is right now at the horizon of events. Will he be able to go over and enter that
    ugly hole?
    We'll see!

  23. Ha-ha-ha, if you don't see that black aura emanating around the heads of those two Halliburton
guys then you 're like an ostrich
with his head in the sand.
Their black aura has spread all over the US, like a black hole.
Obama has a monumental job in front of him, don't you think, Mr. 'moron' caller?
    Show must go on!
