SO THIS IS THE TICKET?

My computer has just told me that Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware is Barack Obama's pick as vice presidential running mate. On the conventional surface it seems a smart move, but I gotta think this one through. I guess it's better than Lyndon Johnson.

The secret word is not Utopia

I was kinda' hoping for Bill Richardson...

Biden seems to be a strategically smart move, anyway.

    Biden strategic? As in sell-out?

Here's a nice summary of his qualifications.

Meanwhile, please excuse me while I vomit.

  4. Joe Bidden is okay by the dubious standards of Washington. Alex Cockburn doesn't like anyone. So much so that he's close to becoming an asset for the Republicans.

Indeed, the old democrat shoot-in-the-foot. It never fails it seems. But maybe not this time, it might well put Obama in the big chair.

They are probably balancing the ticket with a more conservative type idiot (he's the classic used-car salesman figure), which might prove effective to fish out more votes from the other side. Something that might happen to some extent, considering McCain's chronic clumsiness.

But hey, even Mad George made it - but still he had first, a rip-off win and in the second time, the terrorist paranoia (which culminated with Bin Laden's video cast right before the election).

And now times have changed, and the republican wave is running lower (Cheney and the boys are already preparing to jump out of the wagon with their bank accounts overflowing). McCain is just the little dog they sent to be fucked over and shitted on. The loot is done. Even Wolfowitz is already out of the world bank.

Maybe Obama has a sure shot just on the grounds of being the anti-Iraq war candidate, even if he doesn't have a clear plan on when and how to clear the troops.

Other thing is that now the racial factor (with all it's attached street gang paranoia and what not) has been clearly faded out with Biden's white conservative glow. Jezus, just by looking at the picture it looks like Obama is already turning white.

But still, even if Obama wins I won't be feeding any illusions about true change. The machine is bigger than the man. It took two Kennedys to make that unmistakingly clear.

    Pow. Pow.

All politicians are loathsome, but some are less loathsome than others.

yup, the old choice between the shit and the crap.

The only answer to that is... no thanks.

OK.... there may be no choice but to vote for crap over shit, but does it really help to pretend that one's better than the other. When they've got you over a barrel, do you really care who's doing the fucking?

What an inspiring bunch of revolutionaries you guys are.

Hey, I do agree with you, Kass. Was just writing what I think might happen...

    And to paraphrase Hicks again:
“I'll show you politics in America. Here it is, right here:
'-I think the puppet on the right shares my beliefs.' '-I think the puppet on the left is more to my liking.'
'-Hey, wait a minute, there's one guy holding out both puppets!'”

to kass who said, "When they've got you over a barrel, do you really care who's doing the fucking?"

Of course you care, because chances are, one's going to do more damage than an other... simple logic.

Trick is being able to tell who's got the 2 incher & who's got the 10

... and who's sadistic, etc. Point taken.

But shouldn't we be trying to get off the barrel rather than fretting over who the worst fucker is?

I know, easier said than done, but there's no end to how low this lesser of two evils game can take us. It's like grading on a bell curve, standards just keep dropping. Big part of why america's sunk so low. The worst shit starts looking OK if your standards sink to the "dubious" ones of D.C.

"Big part of why america's sunk so low."
I would include the rest of the world on that one.

it's the same logic applied mostly in everything else this great culture has to offer, from consuming buying products to TV channels, the news media, etc

all hail the great american night.

And the revolutionary has to slide through it all "like a fish throughg water" subverting what he can.

  14. I forget who said it first, "There's 5% difference between the candidates but that's the 5% in which we live."

  15. In order to survive we have to constantly strike a balance between utopia and pragmatism.

Essentially, my point is be careful if you're gonna play the politics game to remember what Hicks said (thank you, Mark)... that the same guy's holding both puppets.

Playing the game for expedience or to survive or to "slide through it all" doesn't have to include pretending it means something. That's how they get most people to forget who's holding the puppets and what's really going on... getting them wrapped up in the game. HuffPo is the perfect example. All those bloggers chasing their own tail.

And none of it changes the fact that Biden still sucks.
