DON'T DRINK THE WATER...

I seem to have now just about recovered from my bout with bacteria, and I hope there will be no more interruptions in the Doc40 service as we know it. On the other hand, reading this Yahoo New story from some girl does make me wonder. Oscar Wilde told us not to drink water because “fish fuck in it”, but this as a lot more serious and maybe just one more reason to stick to Jack Daniels

"A vast array of pharmaceuticals — including antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones — have been found in the drinking water supplies of at least 41 million Americans, an Associated Press investigation shows. To be sure, the concentrations of these pharmaceuticals are tiny, measured in quantities of parts per billion or trillion, far below the levels of a medical dose. Also, utilities insist their water is safe. But the presence of so many prescription drugs — and over-the-counter medicines like acetaminophen and ibuprofen — in so much of our drinking water is heightening worries among scientists of long-term consequences to human health. In the course of a five-month inquiry, the AP discovered that drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas — from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville, Ky." But it's all frightening stuff. A decade or so ago I had to proof-read "Britain's Poisoned Water" -- scared me so much I rushed out and bought a water filter. Most worrying of all was the fact that UK municipal authorities add aluminium/aluminum to drinking water to separate out all the other impurities. This makes the water look nice and clear -- but studies have shown that there's a direct link between aluminum levels and rates of Alzheimer's. In addition, London water pesticide levels are worryingly high -- despite control measures, this stuff seeps through the ground into the water table and ends up in our drinking water.
And then there's the cocaine in The Thames -- check out this URL: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2005/11/06/ncoke106.xml&sSheet=/news/2005/11/06/ixhome.html
Gives a whole new meaning to "an invigorating glass of water"...
