Mainly in the interests of retaining my sanity, I pay as little attention as I can to what’s being promoted by Roger Ailes and Fox News. I am well aware of the neo-con mindset, but I try and remain as far detached from it as possible. It’s very, very ugly in there and I tend to get the shakes. The current drumbeat for a war with Iran, however, is too rabid to ignore especially when its sorted and packaged as in this new short film by Robert Greenwald that demonstrates how the current Fox campaign to demonize Iran is nothing more than a propaganda softening-up process to prepare Americans for the Bush administration starting a whole new war in the Middle East before they leave office. (Or maybe use it as an excuse not to leave office.)
I fear I constantly make the mistake of assuming that Bush/Cheney and their demon cohorts are at least marginally rational. We can’t have another war. It won’t play. Moral considerations aside, it just isn’t possible. The military is already stretched to its limit and the industrial end of the notorious military/industrial compex is so mired in graft and inefficiency that it can’t even come up with the 20,000 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles requested for use by the Army and Marines in Iraq. (Compare this with World War II when Ford auto plants, rerigged for aircraft production, were turning out one B-24 bomber every 63 minutes.) I tell myself the White House can’t be that chock full o’ insanity, but I’m finding myself less and less convincing.
The secret word is Ruthless or maybe Demented
And now do you wanna watch ol’ Bob do a rocking version of Masters Of War?

ReplyDeleteYeah... a real waste of time expecting the rational from BushCo, at least by the usual standards. But it's rational, even successful, by theirs.
ReplyDeleteDemented? No. Ruthless? Yes. Nothing argues more that there's a nasty, hidden agenda (aka New World Order conspiracy) on their part than this unrelenting, single-minded, deliberate pursuit of what appears to be non-sense to any normal human being.
They don't give a damn that people bemoan their dementia as long as they can keep doing what they're doing. They have found all the room they need to hide... behind our fear of the "C" word, behind our obsession with Bush's "stupidity," and as you point out, behind the cover of Fox News et al.
The secret word is Distraction.
Farren is right when he says "the militay is already stretched to its limit" down at Iraq. No fucking way they're going to Iran.
ReplyDeletebut FEAR must be constantly pumped in and the "enemy" identified. How did the Bush administration won the last election? With that ohhh so convenient Bin Laden video saying "it doesn't matter who wins I'll keep terrorizing you all".
Since then, Bin has been really quiet and inactive BUT the B. administration did won the election. At ease.
It's also a way to push the early Democrat debate further into Republican turf. With the constant media attack, people will start to worry about Iran and they will want to know what the Dems are doing about it.
The Democratic response may be confused (if they back up they're cowards, if they support it they're pretending to be Republicans) But one thing is sure - The B. administration is known to handle such affairs with an iron hand.
That's exactly why they won with that Bin Laden video. But now Bin is out of the picture - and therefore, out of our collective memory. We need a new menace. Iran.
Once again - FEAR shapes all the major political debate into one single direction - Das New Vorld Order.
"we are the pupper people..."

Seems to me that if Bush wants to have a go at Iran (or invade Venezuela for that matter) he only has one recourse and that's the DRAFT (in big letters). And that's when the shit really hits the fan, when young Americans are jerked away from their girlfriends and their X-Boxes and dumped down in some stinking desert or jungle with only an M16 for company. Finally they'll have a vested interest in the peace process.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more. And that's probably why it hasn't happened yet.
ReplyDeleteBushCo prefers a Blackwater private army they can pay (via our taxes) to do whatever they want, including turning on americans when there's martial law, something our military may find difficult.
yeah Dan, but I still think it's just the Republicans way of catching up with the Democrats early pre-election media activity.
ReplyDeleteLike you said, a DRAFT would surely provoke a sudden state of conscious in the puppet people. They won't risk losing this x-box-tv-cell-phone-internet inertia paradise we all live in.
And why should they invade Venezuela? They never even went to Cuba in the first place..
BUT more importantly than that, Katrina's 2nd anniversary is just around the corner - they might just be progressively building a media distraction to remove our attention from the fact that all the folks from New Orleans are still scattered all over the map, with no houses, no help, no reconstruction. Nothing.
Let's not get caught by the wave of fear.

In fact, the fascist right did go to Cuba. It was called the Bay of Pigs and it only failed because JFK refused to supply air support. And, of course, later made a deal with Nikita Khrushchev not to invade as part of the package to avoid a nuclear war. (And we all know what happened to JFK)
ReplyDeleteyes, but it wasn't a full scale invasion by the US military.
ReplyDeleteJFK is alive and living in miama,
I played poker with her last nite.
